AmazonFresh iPhone App - Searches for the percentage sign bring back funny results.

Date: 04/25/13

AmazonFresh iPhone App (Version 1.1.4)

I wonder if I am the only one who has noticed this.

On the AmazonFresh iPhone app, if you run a search for the percentage symbol, you’ll be returned an astounding number of results (today I got 117,024) and a blank list.

Check out the attached screenshots.

1.     Using the AmazonFresh iPhone app, run a search for the percentage symbol
2.     Note the large number of returned results

Result:  Running a search for the percentage symbol on the AmazonFresh iPhone app returns a large number of listed results – but nothing that the user can select

Expected:  If there aren’t any selectable results from a search for the percentage sign, than I don’t expect to see a number listed

Run a search for the percentage sign....

You get back a lot of results!  But there's nothing to select.

Wanelo iPhone App - Easy to make text disappear in the app

Date: 04/14/2013

Wanelo iPhone App (version 2.5)

There is a very minor bug with the Wanelo iPhone App that I figured I might as well jot down.

If you haven’t tried Wanelo you should, it’s pretty interesting.

The bug is easier to show than to describe, so if you don’t want to read, you can just scroll down to the attached screenshots.

This bug is very simple, and is similar to problems that I’ve seen on the LinkedIn iPhone app and with the latest version of Nosh.

Here’s the basics:  On the “YOU” page, there’s a “FIND FRIENDS” button and a settings button on the top of the screen.

If you press both of these buttons at the same time, it is easy to the “FRIENDS” screen with the title missing from the top of the screen.  In addition, you’ll get into a state where text moves at the top of the screen when you attempt to return to a previous screen.

As I said, it is much easier to show than to describe, so if you’re interested, just scroll down to the attached screenshots.

Steps to reproduce this bug:

1.     Download the Wanelo iPhone App
2.     Launch the app and create an account
3.     Navigate to the “YOU” screen by selecting the sunglasses and mustache icon
4.     Use two fingers and press the mechanical icon and the find friends option at the same time
Result:  Pressing the “FIND FRIENDS” and circular settings button at the same time on the “YOU” screen will take you to the friend invite screen without the “FRIENDS” text on the top of the screen

Expected:  Pressing “FIND FRIENDS” and the circular settings button at the same time shouldn’t cause text to disappear in the app

From the "YOU" screen, select the two circled options as the same time.  (Press and release).

You'll notice the text that is supposed to be at the top of the screen has disappeared.

If you press the "BACK" button once, the word "YOU" will appear on the top of the screen.

Document by Readdle iPhone App - Easy way to crash it.

Date: 04/14/2013

Documents by Readdle iPhone App (version 4.1)

I just downloaded the recently released Documents by Readdle iPhone app.  It’s interesting, if you haven’t tried it, you should.

This app has apparently been available for the iPad for sometime, but was only just released for the iPhone.

Anyways, I just wanted to quickly jot down a crash I found with this app.  This crash is the same exact “one trick pony” crash that I’ve written tens of times for different apps.

This crash is much easier to show than to describe, so if you’re already bored by reading this, just skip down to the attached screenshots.

I’m writing this particular crash using the example MP3 that they place on their homepage.  But this crash can be reproduced anywhere they have the slider thing.  It is easy to reproduce using the Mona Lisa image also.

Here are the specifics for the MP3 screen: This bug requires the use of two fingers.  If you enter into the Edie Murphy MP3 screen, there’s an arrow in the bottom left corner of the screen.  Pressing this arrow activates a pop-up menu option.

If you coordinate pressing this arrow with a simultaneous pressing of the back arrow in the upper left hand corner of the screen, you’ll be able to activate the pop-up on the home screen.  Once you do this, the app will crash after you select any option.

Like I said, this bug is much easier to show than to describe, so please just take a look at the attached screenshots.  I can get this bug to happen in many places in the Readdle iPhone app.

Steps:

1.     Download the Documents by Readdle iPhone App
2.     Launch the app
3.     Select the “Bluegrass” MP3 icon
4.     On the “01. Bluegrass – Edie Murphy” screen select  the arrow in bottom right and the back button in upper left simultaneously
5.     From the Documents home screen, you’ll see the “Send by Email/Open in…” pop-up – select either option

Result:  There is a very easy to reproduce crash in the Readdle iPhone App

Expected:  That you should know about this crash

P.S.  As I’ve said, I’ve written this bug down over and over again, for many apps.

Download the Documents by Readdle iPhone app.

As an example of this crash, select the "Bluegrass" MP3 option....

Takes a little two finger dexterity, but select the two circled arrow options at the same time....

You'll be able to drag this option onto the home screen, once you have, the app crashes...

AmazonFresh iPhone App - Clicking above mobile site link makes a blue rectangle appear on screen

Date:   04/11/13

AmazonFresh iPhone App (version 1.1.4)

Minor functional complaint with the latest version of the AmazonFresh iPhone App.

There is a section in the address book section of "delivery times" that is awfully confusing.

If it is blank, you'll see text that reads, "If you do not see your address it might be undeliverable or missing a payment instrument."

Under this text you'll see another sentence (which is a link) that says, "Please go to our mobile site to update your address book."

The problem that I hit several times is, that, if I tap on this area with my left thumb, the entire area around it becomes blue.  There's a huge blue rectangle on the screen.

I kept thinking the link was dead, or that I was selecting an option that wasn't available.

I've seen this problem on the occasional app, i've not seen it on an Amazon produced app.

This issue is easier to just show than it is to describe, so please just see the attached screenshots.

Steps to reproduce:

1.  Download the AmazonFresh iPhone App (version 1.1.4)
2.  Launch the AmazonFresh app and sign in with your account (an account which hasn't used the service yet)
3.   Select "Delivery Times"
4.  After being taken to an "Address Book" screen, use your left thumb an tap on area just slightly above "Please go to our mobile site..."

Result:  When I use my thumb to click on the area around a link to your mobile site, a rectangular area is highlighted inside the app - made me think that link was dead

Expected:  I do not expect a blue rectangular area to pop up inside the app, when I click on area above "Please go to our mobile site..."

Update the AmazonFresh iPhone App to version 1.1.4.

After logging in with your Amazon credentials (best to do this with an account that is just trying out AmazonFresh for the first time), select "Delivery Times."

If your account doesn't have any AmazonFresh ordering history, this screen will flash for a brief second.  Home button doesn't work....

Using my left thumb, I click on the area just above, "Please go to our mobile site to update your address book."  If I do this, a big, blue, rectangle appears stuck on the screen.  In addition, pressing the "Delivery Times" back arrow takes me to the previous screen, which loads for one second, and then returns me back to this screen!  Confusing!

Google+ iPhone App - Easy way to crash it!

Date: 04/09/13

Google+ iPhone app (Version 4.3.1.16077)

I’m a bit of a “one trick pony” when it comes to iPhone bugs.  I’m lazy, get into a rut, and never even try to challenge myself.

That said, one of my standard iPhone bugs causes a crash on the Google+ iPhone app.  I figured that I might as well write it down.  As I’ve indicated, the bug I’m about to describe can be reproduced on a great many iPhone apps.

This bug is much easier to show than to describe, so if you’re interested, you can skip down below to the attached screenshots.

On the Google+ iPhone app, you can enter into an area where all of your uploaded photos are stored.

If you enter into a particular set of photos, and then focus in on one individual photograph, you’ll have the ability to activate a slider thing if you press an arrow in the upper right hand corner.

It takes a little bit of two-finger dexterity, but you can coordinate pressing the two separate arrows on the top of the screen.

If you do this just right (and with practice, you can hit this in seconds) you will get the slider superimposed on the previous album screen.

Canceling the slider either crashes the app (along with a crash report option at reboot) or, more sinisterly, buts the app into a darkened state until the phone is reloaded.

Interesting, eh?

General steps to reproduce:

1.     Launch Google+ iPhone app
2.     Navigate to a photo album that has multiple photographs
3.     Focus in on one photo
4.     Press the arrow in the upper left and upper right at the same time

Result:  Easy way to crash the Google+ iPhone app

Expected:  Many apps crash like this (but not all)

P.S.  Have you compared results for “One Trick Pony” – Not the results I expected from the search.

Launch the Google+ iPhone App...

Focus in on an individual picture.  You'll have two arrow options at the top of the screen.  Takes practice, but press both of those arrows at roughly the same time.

If you do it just right, you'll be able to drag the "Share/Download photo/Set as profile photo/Delete photo" option to the previous screen.  If select one of these options......

Application crashes, and you'll be presented with this prompt the next time you launch the app.
